re title: as i understood it back then (and today) we used the term 'pow wow' because we admired (and respected) the concept of discussion : we were looking for an unanimous decision for what we were doing as opposed to 'the leader tells us what to do'. it was about the concept of collaboration. i see it less as an appropriation (which it of course is to a certain degree) but more as an attempt to learn something from (indigenous) culture. today it seems a bit naive and as not taking in account all the implications it can have. but that was then. mvs
