Die Videosammlung der Performance Chronik Basel (1987- 2006) schafft Zugang zu Videodokumentationen von Live Performances, die während der Recherchen für die Publikation „Aufzeichnen und Erinnern. Performance Chronik Basel (1987-2006)“ von Muda Mathis und Sus Zwick zusammengetragen wurden. Die Publikation wurde 2016 von Sabine Gebhardt Fink, Muda Mathis und Margarit von Büren beim Diaphanes Verlag in Zürich herausgegeben. Als quasi zweite Dekade schloss die Publikation historisch an die bereits 2011 von den drei Herausgeberinnen publizierte Anthologie „Floating Gaps: Performance Chronik Basel (1968-1986)“ an.
Auch wenn die Sammlung lückenhaft ist und laufend ergänzt, tiefergehend erschlossen und ggf. korrigiert werden muss, liefert sie mit insgesamt 178 Werkeinträgen von knapp 130 Künstlerinnen und Künstlern einen bemerkenswert breiten Überblick zur Geschichte der Performancekunst in der Schweiz.
Die digitale Sammlung fliesst mit der Publikation in die Digitale See, die gemäss Muda Mathis, Sus Zwick und Chris Regn „kein Ort, sondern eine Idee und Haltung [ist]. Sie hat zum Ziel, Kunst, in diesem Fall Performance Dokumentationen, der freien ungebundenen Szene im Internet zugänglich zu machen“. Manifestartig erklären die Betreiberinnen der Digitalen See weiter: „Es geht nicht in erster Linie um Schutz, Aufbewahrung oder Kontrolle über das Material, sondern darum: dieses dokumentarische, kunsthistorische Material den Personen, die damit arbeiten wollen, in der Lehre, in der Forschung, in der eigenen künstlerischen Recherche zugänglich zu machen, um eine Rezeption zu ermöglichen und es in diesen Feldern (Lehre, Forschung, künstlerische Recherche) uneingeschränkt veröffentlichen und sichtbar machen zu können.“*
Daher hat die Mediathek der HGK FHNW die einfachen Nutzungsrechte mit der Sammlung erhalten und darf diese explizit der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich machen.

The video collection of the Performance Chronicle Basel (1987- 2006) provides access to video documentaries of live performances that were produced during the research for the publication "Aufzeichnen und Erinnern. Performance Chronik Basel (1987-2006)" [Recording and Remembering. Performance Chronicle Basel (1987-2006)] by Muda Mathis and Sus Zwick. The book was edited by Sabine Gebhardt Fink, Muda Mathis and Margarit von Büren and was published in 2016 by Diaphanes Publishing in Zurich. As part of the second decade of its existence, the publication historically followed the earlier anthology "Floating Gaps: Performance Chronik Basel (1968-1986)" by the same editors from 2011.
Even though the collection is incomplete and is to be continuously expanded, catalogued in greater depth, and, if necessary, corrected, it provides a remarkably broad overview of the history of performance art in Switzerland with a total of 178 entries by almost 130 artists.
The digital collection and the publication merge into the Digital Sea, which, according to Muda Mathis, Sus Zwick and Chris Regn, "is not a place, but an idea and attitude. Its goal is to make art, in this case performance documentaries, accessible to the free unbound scene on the Internet". In a manifesto-like manner, the organisers of the Digital Sea continue to explain: "It is not primarily a matter of protecting, storing or controlling the material, but of making this documentary, art-historical material accessible to people who want to work with it, in teaching, in research, in their own artistic research. In order to facilitate its reception and to be able to publish it unrestrictedly in these fields (teaching, research, artistic research), in order to make reception possible and to be able to publish it unrestrictedly and make it visible in these fields (teaching, research, artistic research)."*
Therefore, the Mediathek of the HGK FHNW has received the simple rights of use with the collection, including the explicit permission to make it accessible to the public.
